Join Chapter Leaders of Ohio Valley Chapter IIBEC as they present the Fundamentals of Roofing: Critical Factors In Design in FOUR separate 90 minute sessions!

The program is an overview of the 23 critical factors of roof design according to the NRCA Roofing Manual and the rights and responsibilities of the major project stakeholders in using them to develop a roofing project.

These sessions are IIBEC and AIA approved!!

Session Schedule and Details

Tuesday, November 10th – Introduction – Understanding the key stakeholders of a roofing project and the stages of the Facility Lifecycle as defined by the Construction Specifications Institute along with understanding and remembering the 23 factors of roofing design defined by NRCA.

Tuesday, November 17th – Design Stage Factors – Understanding the role of the Roofing System Designer in the roofing project, the types of construction documents required for a roofing project and the factors of roof design that apply specifically to the design stage.

Tuesday, November 24th – Construction Stage Factors – Understanding the role of the Roofing Contractor and Manufacturer in the roofing project, the types of construction documents required for a roofing project and the factors of roof design that apply specifically to the construction stage.

Tuesday, December 1st – Facility Use Factors – Reviews the issues that affect the owner’s team after the facility is constructed and occupied, including maintenance, repairs, sustainability, and the owner’s evolving future needs. The presentation concludes with a discussion of important design factors not covered by the NRCA list, but which may be added in the future.

Meet Our Speakers!

Stephen J. Cooper, CDT, RRO, RRC has served the roofing and building envelope industry for over 24 years. A 1995 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace University with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Steve is the current president of the Ohio Valley Chapter of IIBEC. He has been a Registered Roof Observer (RRO) since 2014 and a Registered Roof Consultant (RRC) since 2019. In addition to IIBEC, Steve is a member of The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and earned his Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certification in 2007.

Bill Spencer, RRO, has served the roofing and building envelope industry for over 30 years. A graduate of Penn State University and President of REPS (Roofing and Exterior Products Services) of Ohio , Bill has served as president of the Ohio Valley Chapter of IIBEC and is a Registered Roof Observer (RRO).

Denise M. Diestel is a building enclosure specialist and principal of NADG in Akron, Ohio. She is a graduate of Kent State University and has been active in planning, design, and construction for over 20 years. Denise is on the Board of Directrors of the Ohio Valley Chapter IIBEC, and she is the Chair of the Awards Committee.
